The Journal Gazette
A brother and sister were arrested early today after a police chase that ended when the suspects drove down a dead end, Fort Wayne police said.
Police said detectives with the Gang & Violent Crimes Unit were attempting to locate Damontre Burnett, who had active felony warrants on kidnapping and robbery charges.
They said they found a vehicle being driven by Burnett's sister Shardae Burnett, in which Damontre Burnett was a passenger.
When detectives attempted a traffic stop on the car, the driver fled, leading detectives on a pursuit, police said. During the pursuit, they said, Damontre Burnett threw a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun out the vehicle's window.
Both were arrested about 12:30 a.m. at North Clinton Street and Medical Park Drive.
Police said Shardae Burnett was charged with resisting law enforcement, assisting a criminal and being an unlicensed driver. They said Damontre Burnett was charged on the kidnapping and robbery warrants and with a misdemeanor.
