Komets 5, Brampton 3
Komets snap 3-game losing streak
A four-game losing streak is something the Komets haven’t had since 2013, before Gary Graham coached the team. They almost did Saturday before a late rally in Brampton, Ontario.
Jamie Schaafsma scored 6:43 into the third period, defenseman Bobby Shea netted his second goal at 14:51, and Garrett Thompson cemented the 5-3 victory with an empty-net goal at the Powerade Centre.
Michael Houser stopped 32 shots for the Komets (22-12-2), whose dominance in the third included all three goals and 19 of 28 shots on goal.
David Vallorani opened the scoring for the Beast 8:51 into the first period, during a power play, and Daniel Ciampini made it 2-0, 11:35 into the second period.
Fort Wayne’s Gabriel Desjardins scored 13:09 into the second but the Beast took a 3-1 lead 2:51 late on Chris Leveille’s goal.
The Komets went into the second intermission down one, thanks to a Shea goal during a power play at 19:16.
Brampton (14-17-3), which is coached by former Komets captain Colin Chaulk, has lost six straight games.
A crowd of 4,020 attended the game.
The game might have been a chance for rookie Jackson Leef to face the Komets, the team which his father, Ron, played, but the Fort Wayne native was released earlier in the week.
