Roy's OT goal leads K's to victory

A night after getting thwarted in an overtime shootout once again, the Komets handled their business just before it could get to one today.
Brady Shaw dropped a pass to Marco Roy, who fired a shot, got his own rebound and fired the puck into the top of the net 46 seconds into overtime to complete a 3-2 victory for the Komets over the North Division-leading Newfoundland Growlers in front of 3,972 fans at the Mile One Centre in St. John’s Newfoundland.

Fort Wayne is now 5-1 in games decided in 3-on-3 overtimes. Newfoundland is 2-3.
The Komets (23-17-5) had lost 3-2 there on Friday, dropping them to 1-4 in shootouts, on a night J.C. Campagna had two goals in regulation and the only tally of the shootout.
This time, it was captain Jamie Schaafsma who scored both of Fort Wayne’s goals, including the goal from 40 feet out 18:20 into the second period that tied it at 2, set up by a Ryan Siiro drop pass.
Goaltender Lukas Hafner stopped 29 shots for Fort Wayne, allowing goals to Zach O’Brien. Newfoundland’s Michael Garteig stopped 28 shots, though he allowed Schaafsma to net a short-handed goal that tied it at 1 in the second period.
There were two fights in the game – Siiro took on Sam Jardine and Craig Cescon fought James Melindy – and Garrrett Clarke made his Fort Wayne debut in the second of three straight games between the teams.
Fort Wayne was 0 for 6 on power plays. The Growlers (31-15-3) were 0 for 5.
