Former Komets star dies

Vladimir Tsyplakov, who played for the Komets from 1993 to 1995 in the now-defunct International Hockey League, and went on to play six seasons in the NHL with Los Angeles and Buffalo, has died at 50. Tsyplakov had 69 goals and 141 points in 142 regular-season games for Fort Wayne. He added eight goals and 20 points in 18 playoff games. He was a third-round pick of the Kings in 1995. In 331 NHL games, he totaled 69 goals and 170 points. Tsyplakov played in two Olympics and was on the Belarus team that lost to Russia in the 2002 bronze-medal game at Salt Lake City, Utah.

PLAYER MOVES

Defenseman Max Gottlieb has been called from the Komets to Ontario of the American Hockey League. He has three goals and 18 points in 26 games for Fort Wayne. Last season, he had one goal and two points in six games for Ontario. … Defenseman Jason Binkley returned to the Komets from Cleveland of the AHL. He had one assist in four games with the Monsters over two call-ups.
