CHICAGO – We've seen this before: Notre Dame is heading back to the Elite Eight.
The Irish held off Texas A&M 87-80 in a thrilling rematch of last year's Sweet 16 matchup.
Arike Ogunbowale had 34 points along with four assists and three steals. Chennedy Carter led all scorers with 35 points.
But as two of the most exciting players in college basketball battled to a draw, it was Notre Dame's Jessica Shepard that proved to be the difference-maker. The Irish forward scored 24 points and had 14 rebounds.
The Irish out-rebounded the Aggies, 45-28, and outscored Texas A&M in the paint, 52-42.
Notre Dame will move on to the regional finals Monday night, where the Irish will face the winner of Missouri State vs. Stanford.
