The Mad Ants continued their positive momentum, winning for the ninth time in the last 13 games.
But this was a grind.
Walt Lemon Jr. had 26 points, six assists and six rebounds as Fort Wayne defeated the league-worst Greensboro Swarm 112-110 at Memorial Coliseum.
The Mad Ants (12-14) have won three in a row. Greensboro (4-21) lost its 13th straight game.
Ben Moore’s tip-in of a Walt Lemon Jr. miss with 2.2 seconds left was the difference for Fort Wayne, which needed a late comeback.
Moore had 14 points and 15 rebounds.
The NBA’s Indiana Pacers assigned Edmond Sumner and Alize Johnson to the Mad Ants for the game. It was Sumner’s second game with Fort Wayne this season and Johnson’s eighth.
The game opened with a frenetic pace and Greensboro took a 33-21 lead on Jalen McDaniels’ 3-pointer from the corner with 2:40 left in the first quarter.
It would take the Mad Ants some time to whittle away for their first lead.
Lemon turned what started as a broken play into a 52-50 lead, when he sent a no-look underhand pass to Moore in the paint or a layup with 1:27 remaining in the second quarter.
The Mad Ants led 56-54 at halftime, at which point Sumner had 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. He finished with 22.
A Moore put-back of a Sumner miss gave Fort Wayne a 65-58 lead with 9:29 left in the third quarter.
Greensboro’s Tyler Nelson drained a 3 for an 87-84 lead with 11:08 left in the fourth quarter.
The Mad Ants tied it at 89 after a Lemon steal set up Johnson for a behind-the-back pass to Moore and a layup.
A C.J. Wilcox 3-pointer tied it for Fort Wayne at 106 with 1:12 left in the game, but Greensboro’s Kobi Simmons put his team up 110-107 on a free throw with 22 seconds remaining. Wilcox tied it on a 3 after the ensuing timeout.
Greensboro’s Caleb Martin then missed a 3 with 9 seconds left, setting Fort Wayne up for a chance to win.
