Gabe York converted 8 of 26 shots and totaled 28 points, but his Mad Ants lost 114-99 to Raptors 905 in front of an announced crowd of 1,645 at Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
After the game, the Mad Ants announced they’d waived Stephan Hicks, so he can pursue an opportunity overseas. He’d appeared in five games since rejoining the Mad Ants – his sixth season with the team – and he ranks second in franchise history in points (2,895) and games played (224).
"I appreciate the Mad Ants organization and the fans for welcoming me back. I know I was only here for a short period of time, but I got a chance to play with a lot of great guys. Another opportunity for me came up and I decided that was the best thing for me right now in my career," Hicks said.
Said general manager Chris Taylor: “While we hate to see him leave after such a short stint this time, we wish Steph nothing but the best in his continued career and hope the door on a return as an Ant someday is never closed.”
In the game, Russ Smith had 24 points, on the heels of scoring 43 in the regular season-opening loss to the Raptors, 103-94 on Thursday.
York added nine rebounds and seven assists for the Mad Ants, who play host to the Westchester Knicks on Jan. 15 at the Coliseum, and Bennie Boatwright had 20 points and 11 rebounds.
The Raptors were paced by Isaac Bonga’s 22 points and 17 rebounds. Reggie Perry had 20 points and 11 rebounds.
