The Indiana Tech women’s indoor track and field team competed for the first time in 2020 on Saturday at the Mastodon Invitational, hosted by Purdue University Fort Wayne and came home with the team title after scoring 189 points inside Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
Doneasha Brewer won the 60 meters with an NAIA automatic qualifying standard time of 7.72 while Aaliyah Brown hit the provisional standard in 7.76 to take second. Derica Gibson won the 200m in 25.44, hitting the “A” standard while Kayla Moody was third in a “B” standard time of 25.87.
Mary Leighton won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.94 while Sherita Lowman was third in 9.32. The team of Alexis Lombardo, Antonishka Deveaux, Lily Rothert and Kara Kline took second in the distance medley relay with a time of 13:01.08.
Lena Ludy cleared 1.68m/5-6 in her season debut to win the high jump and hit the NAIA “A” standard while Kylin Nichols hit the provisional mark in the long jump at 5.55m/18-2.5 and took second in the event. Nekeima and Destiny Copeland went 1-2 in the triple jump with marks of 11.83m/38-9.75 and 11.65m/38-2.75 and both hit the “A” standard.
Raven Morris won the shot put with a season-best mark of 12.64m/41-5.75 while Ebony Butler won the weight throw with a mark of 11.90m/39-0.5.
Tech returns to action Friday as it travels to Liberty University for the two-day Liberty Kickoff. Meet times are set for 12:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. from the Liberty Indoor Track and Field Complex.
