Allen County Republican Party Chairman Steve Shine reports that President Donald Trump's hotel company is still a customer of Fort Wayne's DeBrand Fine Chocolates.
Shine said Wednesday that he and his wife, Jody, are staying at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. They are in the nation's capital for the Thursday swearing in of U.S. Rep.-elect Greg Pence of Columbus, brother of Vice President Mike Pence. The Shines also will attend a Pence family celebratory dinner at the Library of Congress.
When they reached their hotel room, the Shines found milk chocolate "mini bullions" bearing Trump's last name in upper-case letters on the gold-colored package. The package also carried the DeBrand name, website and hometown.
"It really is an honor for Fort Wayne to have DeBrand in each room at Trump International, with the packaging clearly stating Fort Wayne, IN," Shine said in an email.
The Journal Gazette has reported at various times since 2004 that Trump and his businesses, including the hotel chain and the reality TV show "The Apprentice," had offered DeBrand products. But the last such account came in early 2012, roughly five years before Republican Trump was sworn in as the nation's 45th president.
