“Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak had to have emergency surgery, and his longtime co-host Vanna White will fill in for him while he recovers.
The show said in a statement that Thursday's taping was canceled as Sajak, 73, underwent successful surgery to correct a blocked intestine.
White, 62, stepped in as host when taping resumed Friday for episodes that will air starting Dec. 9.
The statement says Sajak is resting comfortably and looking forward to returning but does not say how long he is expected to be out or how long White will act as host.
Sajak and White have co-hosted the show since the early 1980s.
She filled in for him once before for one segment of the show, when Sajak had laryngitis in 1996.
Not guilty plea
“Jersey Shore” star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence, child endangerment, false imprisonment and other misdemeanors after his arrest last month in the Hollywood Hills.
The 33-year-old Ortiz-Magro entered the plea Friday in Los Angeles to seven misdemeanor counts that also included criminal threats, brandishing a weapon and resisting arrest.
Police say Ortiz-Magro was uncooperative and they had to use a stun gun to take him into custody on Oct. 4.
Ortiz-Magro has had frequent disputes with Jennifer Harley, his on-and-off girlfriend and mother of his child. Harley has also been arrested involving scuffles with Ortiz-Magro but charges were dismissed.
'Boat' to end Feb. 21
ABC's “Fresh Off the Boat,” the first network TV comedy in two decades to focus on an Asian American family, is coming to an end after six seasons.
The network said Friday that the sitcom starring Randall Park and Constance Wu will wrap with an hourlong finale on Feb. 21.
There always seems to be a section of wrapping paper left that isn't quite big enough to cover any presents. And then there's that unopened roll you've had for a couple years because seemed like a great deal on clearance, but isn't all that jolly in hindsight. We want to hear how you use up leftover wrapping paper for an upcoming story.
We're also looking to hear from non-profit organizations that accept whole or partial rolls as donations.
