De Niro to get honor from SAG

Associated Press

Robert De Niro will receive the Screen Actors Guild's life achievement award.

The guild announced that De Niro will be the 56th recipient of its highest honor at its SAG Awards on Jan. 19.

SAG cited De Niro's extraordinary accomplishments in film and television, including two Academy Awards, a Presidential Medal of Freedom and numerous other honors. It also noted his co-founding and championing of New York City's Tribeca Film Festival.

De Niro's latest film is “The Irishman,” which is playing in theaters in limited release before arriving on Netflix at the end of the month.

The actor says in a statement that he's honored to receive the award from a union that he's been a part of for more than 50 years.

Osmond show end

Marie Osmond says she's ready perform the final week of an 11-year run with her brother, Donny Osmond, at the Flamingo Las Vegas, after telling the audience on her television talk show that she chipped her knee late last week.

Osmond talked about her injury during an appearance Monday on CBS' “The Talk.”

Osmond, 60, was forced to back out of a performance last Saturday night, but is promising audiences she will be back for this week's final shows.

Front-row seats for the last concert Saturday were going for $4,000 or more, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Doherty arrests

The Paris prosecutor's office says British singer Pete Doherty has been handed a three-month suspended sentence and a fine of $11,000 after being arrested in Paris twice in one week.

The prosecutor's office said Tuesday that the 40-year old former Libertines and Babyshambles frontman was handed the sentence two days after being placed in custody Sunday for “violence by a person in a manifest state of intoxication.”

He was also detained overnight once last week over a foiled cocaine purchase.

Since rising to fame, Doherty, the ex-boyfriend of model Kate Moss, has been repeatedly arrested for drug offenses.
