  • Cathie Rowand | The Journal Gazette Kayakers get ready to head up the St Marys River for Margarita Monday Paddle Social. A group meets every Monday weather permitting at 6 pm from the Fort Wayne Outfitters & Bike Depot, 1004 Cass St. Padders can rent or bring their own boats. No margarita are served during the paddle but the group meets at Don Chava's after they spend time on the river.

Sixty from Indiana and Ohio participated and organizers plan to continue the event same time next year.

For three days this week, Kindergarten through Grade 5 students had the opportunity to participate in the Math for Fun workshop, refreshing their math skills in fun and interesting ways before the school year starts August 23.

  • Cathie Rowand | The Journal Gazette The Zeigler family watch as the front buildings to their family business Zeigler's Window Coverings on Fairfiled is demolished Tuesday morning. The rear building will get a new facade and become the new front of the business. The section being torned down was three homes and a shoe repair shop linked togehter behind a commercial facade. The torn down section will become green space.

  • Cathie Rowand | The Journal Gazette Lakeside Middle school sixth graders practice the combination lock on their lockers during Transition Day at their school. Students entering sixth and ninth grades in Fort Wayne Community Schools got a jump on the new school year visiting their schools. The orientation day gave students at these two transitional grade levels the chance to learn the rules of the new school, find their lockers, walk through their schedule and practice other school routines, such as navigating the lunch line.
