Boy's injuries lead to charge of battery

MATTHEW LEBLANC | The Journal Gazette

A Fort Wayne woman is charged with felony battery of a child after a boy told police he was strangled, spanked, pushed to the ground and held against the wall.

Alexis Burda, 24, was charged Thursday in Allen Superior Court.

Police said they saw bruises and cuts on the boy, who is not identified in court documents. Officers who interviewed the boy Tuesday said he also had “red marks around the neck area and bruising under the right armpit that showed finger marks” and “a large scrape underneath (his) chin and a bruised right elbow.”

There was redness on his buttocks, according to charging documents.

“(He) told me his mommy had punished him for lying,” a probable cause affidavit states. “He told me she pushed him down on the ground several times. He told me she then spanked him and then held him against the wall and choked him.”

The boy's age is not specified in the document.

His father picked up the boy from Burda's home Tuesday and found a “large knot and bruise” above his right eye, investigators said.

The boy had at least 24 injuries, according to the affidavit.

Burda was released on her own recognizance after a court hearing Wednesday. Another hearing is scheduled next week.
