A surveillance camera captured the fatal shooting of a man last month outside a bar just south of downtown, according to court documents.
Jaylin Robinson, 23, was found face down about midnight Sept. 28 in a parking lot behind The Broadway Grille, 1420 Broadway. He had been shot multiple times, investigators said.
Michael O. Anderson Jr., 22, was the shooter, police said.
“The video shows Jaylin walk towards Michael and appears to shake hands and that is when Michael extends his arms as he starts to shoot Jaylin,” a probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday in Allen Superior Court alleges. “Michael walks backwards looking at Jaylin as he continues to shoot and then turns around and sprints away.”
Anderson was arrested at Allen County Jail, where he was being held on a warrant for parole violation. He is charged with murder and also faces a sentencing enhancement for using a gun to commit the crime.
He faces up to 85 years in prison if he is convicted.
Police this month released photos of two men they said were persons of interest in the case, but the affidavit makes clear investigators believe only Anderson fired the fatal shots.
Robinson arrived at the bar about 11:45 p.m. and was met by Anderson and three unnamed men, according to the document. Robinson is shot dead soon after.
A motive for the slaying is not clear.
Anderson – who two police officers said they recognized “due to prior contacts in the community” – reportedly can be seen on surveillance video “throughout the bar” wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt and maroon pants with a white stripe. DNA that was collected from the clothes tie Anderson to the crime, the affidavit stated.
“This analysis provides very strong support for the proposition that Michael Anderson Jr. is a contributor to the DNA profile,” the document stated.
Robinson's was the 20th homicide in Allen County this year.
