One person died in a crash Friday afternoon between a car and a semi in northeast Allen County that closed U.S. 24 for hours, the county sheriff's department said.
Police said they were called to U.S. 24 west of Bull Rapids Road about 2:10 p.m.
They said the driver of the car, who was not identified, was headed east on U.S. 24, crossed the median and collided with a westbound semi head-on.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi's driver suffered minor injuries.
The westbound lanes of U.S. 24 were expected to reopen about 4:30 p.m., but the eastbound lanes were expected to be closed until at least 6 p.m., the sheriff's department said.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's department and the county coroner's office.
