A Fort Wayne man named as a person of interest in the suspicious death of a 19-month-old boy is behind bars.
But it's still unclear how the boy died.
Trevon Bishop, 23, was arrested about 10 p.m. Thursday on a June 29 warrant charging him with carrying a handgun while having a prior felony conviction in late May. He has not been charged in the death of Elias Paez.
The 1 ½-year-old boy was found just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the apartment where he lived at 4315 Joshua Lane, near McKinnie Avenue and South Anthony Boulevard.
The coroner said the cause and manner of Elias' death is pending.
Bishop was arrested in the 3000 block of Harrison Street after a manhunt ensued throughout the southeast and southwest areas of the city, said Detective Sgt. Timothy Hughes, head of the Fort Wayne Police Department's homicide unit.
Roderick Parker, a friend of the toddler's mother, said he saw the boy about a month and a half ago.
“Everybody is really, really hurt behind this,” said Parker, who used to live in Fort Wayne and now lives outside the state.
