Purdue University trustees Friday approved a 1.65% tuition increase at the Purdue Fort Wayne campus for each of the next two years.
The general undergraduate rate at the Fort Wayne campus for residents is $8,589 this fall and $8,730 in fall 2020. For nonresidents, the rates are $20,622 and $20,961, respectively, according to Purdue.
The rates are for the full academic year and are based on 15 credit hours per semester for undergraduates, Purdue said.
Purdue Fort Wayne will also introduce an additional tuition charge for international students of $24.90 per credit hour or $373.50 per semester for undergraduates and $31.57 per credit hour for graduate students. The campus will also charge a differential fee for the College of Visual and Performing Arts at $25 per credit hour for undergraduates and $31.57 per credit hour for graduate students, which will be phased in over two years at 50% each year.
Four people – including an administrator and the student body president – attended a May 29 public hearing by video conference from a conference room in the Science Building at Purdue Fort Wayne.
A 1.65% increase was also approved for Purdue Northwest for each of the next two years. Tuition will remain frozen at Purdue's main campus in West Lafayette for the seventh and eighth consecutive years through the 2020-21 academic year, Purdue said.
The tuition hikes, recommended by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, will fund the operating budget, which includes salaries and benefits, scholarships, supplies, services and repairs, Purdue said.
For fiscal year 2020, the Indiana General Assembly appropriated $301.3 million for the West Lafayette campus, $52.5 million for Purdue Northwest and $47.7 million for Purdue Fort Wayne, an overall decrease of 1.01% in appropriations driven by a decline primarily in the university's fee replacement appropriation reflecting lower outstanding debt, Purdue said.
The university's all-funds operating budget for fiscal year 2020 supports educational, operating and strategic investment expenditures.
Purdue trustees endorsed operating expenditures for fiscal year 2020 of $155.6 million at Purdue Fort Wayne, $2.14 billion at the West Lafayette campus and $159.1 million at Purdue Northwest, the university said.
