Fort Wayne man charged in Decatur Road homicide

A 19-year-old Fort Wayne man has been arrested after a fatal shooting Sunday on Fort Wayne's south side, Fort Wayne police said today. 

Dakota Waudby was preliminarily charged with murder, city police said in a statement. 

Several witnesses called police about 1 a.m. Sunday to the 7900 block of Decatur Road, where Renako Sadiki Kenyatta Thomas, 34, was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, police said. Paramedics pronounced him dead. 

Following an autopsy, the Allen County coroner's office said today that Thomas died from a gunshot wound to the chest, and his death is the county’s 38th homicide this year. There were 43 homicides last year.
